Region Description:
- Long term attention to Information Society and innovation
- CSI PIEMONTE: support body to promote computer science, innovation, e-government in local PA in Piedmont active since 1977
- IRISI PIEMONTE: Piedmont Region was one of the founding regions in the RISI initiative. IRISI Piemonte initiative originated an early Information Society plan in 1996 and an infrastructure to connect all local PA (Piemonteinrete ->RUPAR Piemonte)
- E-GOVERNMENT INITITIAVES: many running projects, running e-gov regional plan, 6% founded by national Ministry of Innovation; EU awarded initiatives
- HIGH LEVEL OF R&D PRIVATE EXPENDITURE (23% of business Italian expenditure) and RELEVANT REASERCH & INNOVATION LOCAL NETWORK (UNIVERSITY, POLYTECHNIC, several research centers)
- DIGITAL ECONOMY ENTERPRISES CONCENTRATION IN TURIN (10% total employment is in ICT), pole of “KNOWLEDGE INTENSIVE BUSINESSES”.
- Not yet a “digital cluster”: Piedmont is undergoing a crisis related with general national situation summed up with automotive sector crisis, on which regional economy depends (about 30% businesses are linked with the automotive!).
- A running benchmarking initiative REGIONAL-IST (FP5) has a Piedmont partner (ISMB)
- A declaration of intent was signed in 2003 by main research and academic bodies working on Information Society, in order to create one Observatory and to exchange data.
- Piedmont is member of ERIS@ network and IANIS project.
Partner Description:
CSP is a Center of Excellence for Research, Development and Testing of advanced Information and Communication Technologies. It is a non-profit consortium recognized as applied research laboratory by the Italian Ministry of Education, University and Scientific Research.
CSP MISSION is:
- To analyse, understand and interpret the Information Society implementation processes
- To design, test and transfer forefront technologies in order to improve processes and services
- To anticipate possible scenarios of ICT applications through a close relationship with University and research bodies
