Region Description:
- The Voivodeship of Wielkopolska was created in 1999 as an effect of the administration reform which main objective was the preparation of Polish administration for the implementation of Structural Funds. The region is divided into 4 sub-regions;
- Wielkopolska has no previous experience in the regional Information Society projects – several initiatives were implemented on the lowest administration level (commune,gmina) – and were done by different associations and foundations;
- Wielkopolska is implementing several INTERREG III C projects: STIMENT (RFO with four regions, INTERREG III C North Zone), 3-CIP (individual project, INTERREG III C East Zone);
- The region has also its Regional Innovation Strategy prepared under the framework of 5th Framework Programme (RIS);
- Poznań, the capital of Wielkopolska region is a centre of research and university education, also famous for the Poznań International Fair;
- In the programming period 2004-2006 under the framework of IROP Wielkopolska is going to invest about 4 million € in the Information Society infrastructure (75% from ERDF)
